Choosing a boiler

Combi, system or regular?

It depends on your bathrooms, your water pressure and the space you have. Here's the short version.

Combi boiler

Best for

Flats and small-to-medium homes with one main bathroom.

  • — Frees up cupboard and loft space
  • — Hot water whenever you turn on a tap
  • — Usually the simplest installation

System boiler

Best for

Larger homes with two or more bathrooms used at the same time.

  • — Strong hot water to several outlets at once
  • — Compatible with solar thermal and future heat pumps
  • — No cold water tank in the loft

Regular (heat-only) boiler

Best for

Older homes with existing tanks and pipework that suits gravity-fed systems.

  • — Often the least disruptive swap in older properties
  • — Suits radiators on older open-vented systems
  • — Can serve multiple bathrooms

Not sure? Choose "Not sure" in the quote form and we'll recommend the right option.

Questions

Good questions.

All FAQs

Gas safety

If you smell gas, this is not a job for a repair form.

  • Open doors and windows
  • Don't use electrical switches or naked flames
  • Turn off the gas at the meter if safe to do so
  • Leave the property and wait outside

Headache, dizziness or nausea may be carbon monoxide poisoning. Get fresh air and seek medical help.
